With the May 13 13F first-quarter deadline behind us, the general public now has access to the equity and options positions of institutional investors as of the end of March. During the quarter, Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS ) was the largest buyer of Nio (NYSE: NIO ) stock. It hasn’t been a pleasant 2024 for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, with its shares experiencing an over 35% decline. This has been attributed to steep competitive pressure, EV price wars and a falling Chinese housing market that has reduced the appetite for luxury vehicles. However, Morgan Stanley’s Q1 13F activity hints that the investment bank may believe that the bottom is near. The firm disclosed purchasing 10.11 million shares , increasing its existing stake by a significant 55.86% to 28.21 million shares. NIO Stock: Morgan Stanley Adds 10.11 Million Shares It’s worth noting that Morgan Stanley’s allocation to NIO stock is still just 0.01% due to its holdings of thousands of other stocks. In other words, while the firm owns nearly 30 million shares of NIO, a plunge to $0 would mean nothing to it.

Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD ) stock is up on Friday after the financial services platform company got a new price target from Bank of America analysts. This has the Bank of America analysts increasing their price target for HOOG stock from $14 per share to $24 per share . That represents a potential 34% upside from the stock’s prior closing price. It’s also bullish next to the analysts’ consensus price prediction of $19.75 per share. In addition to this, Bank of America also have HOOD stock a double upgrade today. That saw it bump the stock up from an “underperform” rating to a “buy” rating. That’s better than the analysts’ consensus rating of hold based on 15 opinions. What’s Behind the Bull Stance on HOOD Stock? Here’s what Bank of America analyst Craig Siegenthaler said in a note to clients obtained by CNBC . “Retail engagement peaked in 2021 and then declined significantly through the >500bps of Fed rate hikes and the 2022 bear market, troughing in 2023. However, following the emergence of a new bull market last year, we have monitored a rebound in multiple metrics at Robinhood Markets … and we expect this to continue through 2026.” HOOD stock is up 9.7% as of Friday morning with more than 14 million shares traded.
Market turbulence happens. Lately, it’s becoming clear that investors need to be focusing on recession-resistant stocks. Companies that provide stable cash flows and pay out dividends, or reinvest their capital into their core high-growth businesses, are likely to outperform. If macro headwinds pick up, it’s better to be safe than sorry. And while growth has outperformed value for quite some time, it’s true that over the long-term, this dynamic is typically reversed. We could be headed into a period where companies that are fairly-valued and spit off tremendous cash flows are rewarded much more highly by the market. In that regard, I’ve picked three recession-resistant stocks that investors should consider. It doesn’t matter what happens to the market today or tomorrow. But if you expect some turbulence over the next year or two, these companies could be among the best picks to buy right now. (It’s also worth noting they should perform well in a booming economy as well, of course). Restaurant Brands (QSR) Source: Savvapanf Photo / Shutterstock.com As the parent company of big fast food chains like Popeyes and Burger King, Restaurant Brands (NYSE: QSR ) has stood tall through market turbulence.
